Eric sent me this link to a video showcasing EA's upcoming game Spore. It's from the maker of SimCity and all I can say is FREAKING WOW. Watch the video. It's amazing.

the neat thing about spore is it's a complete 180 from the standard flow of games currently on the market. most games now focus on graphics and details, providing huge static graphic sets - one of the reasons why game media is requiring dvds for distribution. spore is really a 2006 spin on the old days of games, where graphics were generated on-the-fly using algorithms instead of static graphic sets - similar to what the original SC did - with very few static graphics, and a set of terrain algorithms to generate the rest. it will really provide a personalized gaming experience... which is why I think it'll do very well. it'll be "the old new". now all we need is OK soda to come back, and things will finally come full circle.
